What is Google Adwords?

Google Adwords is a search engine advertising platform that allows users to purchase and manage sponsored ads on Google's search engine and content network. Google's network includes many sites including AOL, Earthlink, HowStuffWorks, & Blogger.

How do you know if a competitor is clicking my add over and over again?

This is known as PPC fraud. This is one of the best reasons to have a constant watch on your PPC campaign. Sudden drops in clicks-per-day can be attributed to PPC fraud. Contacting the search engine to report these claims will begin an investigation into I.P. addresses frequenting your ads. If one I.P. address in particular is clicking over and over again, you will receive credit for those clicks.

Why does my PPC account show more clicks than actual pageviews on my landing page?

An ad view occurs when a user clicks on your ad and leaves the search engine. Reasons for not landing on the landing page post ad-click can simply be the result of the user's firewall or filtering device. Also, if your landing page fails to load due to browser incompatibility, then it will cost you the click, but the user will find an error page. This is why optimizing landing pages is so important.

My competitor always outbids me for the highest-volume keyword. What can I do to keep from driving the prices of these keywords up?

There are many ways to answer this question. One answer is to let the wolves fight over the biggest piece of meat, and destroy each other in the process. Instead of trying to be king of the largest hill, you can instead distribute your ad spend to be king of 10 medium size hills. This takes more creativity and keyword research, but in the end, a sale is a sale, no matter which keyword brought them to the register. Avoid getting caught up in a bidding war. Secondly, you can regionalize your keywords. Figure out where your competitor is bidding at, and slip into the top position for geographical areas they are not targeting.

What is Click-Through Rate?

This is the percentage of clicks from users over ad impressions. If your ad is seen 100 times (impressions) and 20 people click on your ad, your click-through rate is 20%.
